Stockport 1- 2 Charlton

Charlton continued their perfect run in to the New Year this afternoon with a comfortable 2- 1 victory over Stockport County.

The Addicks began the game looking to score and finished the game with a shot tally of 13 compared to the Hatters who managed only 4 shots throughout the 90 + minutes.

Travelling fans didn’t have long to wait until the away side opened the scoring, with Sam Sodje rising powerfully on 13 minutes to head home from a Grant Basey cross.

Charlton continued to attack, only for David Mooney to be kept out by Owain Fon Williams, the home side tried time and again to gain control of the match, but the suspect looking pitch and a strong opposition made things difficult for the side that currently prop up the League One table.

Phil Parkinson’s side continued to pressurise Stockport, but it was not until the 73rd minute that the away teams’ pressure was rewarded as Scott Wagstaff grabbed his 2nd away goal in as many matches with a fine strike from inside the box.

2 – 0 looked to be the certified result, especially as the home side were reduced to 10 men deep into injury time, Carl Baker receiving a straight red card for violent conduct after 95 minutes.

There was however, a ray of light on a miserable day for the home side, as Rob Elliot unfortunately turned the ball into his own net after 96 minutes.

The Addicks never really looked like leaving Edgeley Park with anything but 3 points by all accounts, a knowledge that is sure to have the players and the Addicked fired up for next Saturday’s clash with Millwall as Charlton look to guarantee a very sweet Christmas present.

Come on you Addicks!
