On a hot summer night in Leyton E10, 3000 Charlton fans descended in excitement, hoping to see the winning form that the Addicks have displayed in their previous two games being continued.
The travelling crowd turned Brisbane Road into a Valley cauldron, and you would have been forgiven for thinking that Charlton were the home team, as the sounds from the crowd belonged solely to the Addicks for the full 90 minutes of the game.
Charlton, naming an unchanged side, started with almost recklessly high pressure, Jonjo Shelvey finding himself lucky not to be sent off after a flying stud high challenge after only 10 seconds.
The Addicks spent most of the first half looking uncomfortable, the best chances they could create included a cross to the far post to find Nicky Bailey and Deon Burton colliding with each other as they both tried to get a head on the ball and a tame effort from Burton just before the half time mark, when, finding himself with the ball bouncing and with his back to goal, tried and acrobatic bicycle kick which was calmly collected by Orient goalkeeper Jamie Jones.
It was in fact the O's who drew first blood in the fixture. Silencing the travelling fans, albeit briefly. Tamika Mkandawire rose first to meet a cross from the right hand flank and head the ball past Rob Elliott after 27 minutes.
Half time 1 - 0.
During the break Phil Parkinson told his players, "I said to them at half-time that we were almost so keen to do well for our three thousand travelling supporters; we were almost too tense."We needed to relax, calm down, stop giving fouls away, and do what we do well, which is play football."
The Addicks began the second half as a changed team, taking their time to build up the play and confuse the defence.
It was this skilful play from the Addicks that nearly led to the equaliser, 6 minutes after the break, Deon Burton, who had terrorized the defence throughout found himself fouled by Orient goalscorer Tamika Mkandawire 25 yards from the goal.
Miguel Llera, sporting a scrum cap, stepped up and curled a powerful free kick towards the top of the net, only to find his shot denied by a great same from Jamie Jones.
Charlton continued to stifle the chances of Leyton Orient and keep the pressure on their opposition.
Pressure which was rewarded on 64 minutes. Lloyd Sam crossing the ball into the edge of the penalty area where, Jonjo Shelvey, waiting in anticipation, chested the ball down and delivered a stinging shot as he turned which flew into the bottom corner of the net. 1 - 1 to Charlton. Game on.
From the moment the equaliser went in, the travelling Addicks went into another gear, both in the stands and on the pitch. As the crowd became more and more vocal, it seemed that the players could not put a foot wrong, Therry Racon's dribbling ability reducing the Orient players to a state of amazement.
It was this continued pressure which led to the winner. On 86 minutes, after a long ball down field from Frazer Richardson, Tamika Mkandawire attempted to head the ball back to keeper Jamie Jones, however, his header was woefully under hit, Deon Burton saw his chance, spinning past his marker and getting to the ball first, he looked up, saw Jamie Jones stranded in no mans land and without hesitation calmly chipped the ball and watched as it flew gracefully into the back of the net.
The travelling Addicks went through the roof at a truly incredible comeback performance from the Charlton players, who spent the remaining minutes of the game keeping the ball in their possession and ensuring that Charlton would finish Tuesday night with a maximum haul of nine points out of nine.
