Team news for the Addicks saw Sam Sodje named in the starting eleven in place of Miguel Llera for his first start of the season, Sodje the only change from a Charlton side who were otherwise an unchanged side from Tuesday’s defeat at Colchester.
Phil Parkinson spoke before the game of wanting his players to show a reaction for Tuesday night’s performance and by all accounts no one will be disappointed with the performance shown.
During the first half both Leeds and Charlton were equals, Jermaine Beckford coming closest for Leeds on two occasions, however, neither chance could find the target for the Whites striker.
The Addicks had two chances in the first half also, Jonjo Shelvey heading the ball past the post and Deon Burton having the ball taken away from him at the last moment to prevent the Londoners taking the lead.
Half Time: Leeds 0 – 0 Charlton
The second half began with Scott Wagstaff lining up on the right wing in place of Lloyd Sam, who had not been involved greatly throughout the first half however it’s assumed his substitution was made as a result of injury rather than tactics.
Both sides remained fairly equal during the second half although Leeds had some good periods of pressure. Rob Elliot being the star for Charlton yet again as Enoch Showunmi’s shot was turned round the post after 62 minutes.
Charlton increased the pressure after 75 minutes as Izale McLeod was bought on to replace Jonjo Shelvey and Phil Parkinson changed the Charlton formation to 4-4-2.
It was the Addicks that nearly got the first goal of the game after 77 minutes as Matt Spring unleashed a long range right footed drive which Casper Ankergren managed to save.
Both sides had moments of pressure towards the end of the game but in the end a 0 -0 result was blown for by the referee.
Neither side will be disappointed by the score line in a game which leaves Charlton regaining the confidence in their performances that they have displayed in this first part of the season.
