Charlton Athletic returned to winning ways today with an away win against Hartlepool United.
Following Tuesday nights Carling Cup exit, Phil Parkinson was keen to return his side to the sort of performance exampled against Wycombe Wanderers a week earlier.
Thankfully, Parky didn't have to wait too long to have his and the Charlton fans faith in the players restored, Deon Burton capitalising on some sloppy Hartlepool defending to chip the keeper and make it 1 - 0 after 24 minutes.
Charlton ensured that they didn't step off the proverbial accelerator at this point and were rewarded only 3 minutes later when Therry Racon, following some wizardry along the right wing, burst into the box and fired the ball looping across the goal which was met by the flying skipper Nicky Bailey to increase the Addicks lead to 2 - 0 after 27 minutes.
Charlton nearly made the game 3 - 0 12 minutes after the break as Lloyd Sam combined with Therry Racon who sent a half volley flying to towards the goal, only to see it cleared off the line by Hartlepool's Andy Monkhouse.
After the game, Phil Parkinson spoke of the pride he held for his sides performance saying, "I thought it was a comfortable victory and I'm really pleased. This league is all about coming to places like Hartlepool and it was a good introduction to League One football.
"It's about dealing with your environment and I thought we showed a lot of professionalism, a lot of commitment and, on top of that, a lot of quality on the ball."
Charlton go on to face Leyton Orient at Brisbane Road on Tuesday in the first London derby of the season. Lets hope this form can continue.
Come on you Addicks!
