Liverpool are back with a bang after their dodgy spell in the Premiership in which they lost four of their last six matches.
They came from a goal down at half-time to beat Charlton Athletic 2-1 at The Valley and now have their eyes firmly set on a Champions League spot and fourth place in the league.
Liverpool thoroughly deserved the three points against the Charlton side who have punched against their weight this season and were in seventh position on the same points as Liverpool going into the game.
The visitors hit the woodwork twice and amazingly found themselves a goal behind at the break. But their class shone through in the second half as they dominated the game.
The attendance of 27,102 was the biggest gate at The Valley for 27 years and the biggest since Charlton returned to the ground in 1992.
Liverpool could have gone in front as early as the eighth minute when Luis Garcia's shot was saved by Dean Kiely, who could not hold the ball, and from the rebound Steven Gerrard thumped the ball against the post.
Charlton took the lead against the run of play in their first worthwhile attack when former Liverpool Danny Murphy gamed a corner for the home side. He took it himself and striker Shaun Bartlett appeared from nowhere through the Liverpool defence to score with a downwards header.
Kiely again saved Charlton with a great stop from a close-range effort from Fernando Morientes, while at the other end Liverpool keeper Jerzy Dudek made an important save when he brilliantly tipped over Hermann Hreidarsson's header.
Liverpool showed their intent by returning to the field a few minutes before their opponents after the break and they pinned Charlton back in their own half with a wave of attacks which saw John Arne Riise hit the crossbar before the visitors finally got the equaliser they deserved.
A mistake by Bryan Hughes, who gave the ball away, allowed Morientes to race through on goal and he showed his class with a brilliantly struck goal.
From this stage it was only going to be one winner as Charlton wilted under the pressure and the winner came on 77 minutes when Garcia played Riise in behind the home defence and he fired home the winner with an angled low shot.
