Charlton 4 - 1 Barnet

A wet and windy night greeted the 4,522 fans who travelled down to the Valley on Tuesday night.

Action was frequent throughout the game, and ex Barnet player and Charlton skipper Nicky Bailey was key to it all.

It took only 12 minutes for the first goal of the game to go in. Bailey inexplicably tried to dribble the ball out of the Charlton area on to be caught in possession and watch as the ball travelled to the right hand side of the goal for John O'Flynn to fire past Rob Elliott and make the score 1 - 0.

If Bailey has done anything as Captain of Charlton thought, he has lead by example.

Only three minutes later Bailey stormed down the left flank with the ball in possession before finding Izale McLeod who promptly scored his 2nd goal in consecutive home fixtures.

The match remained at 1 – 1 until the 40th minute, when young Tamer Tuna found himself clear in the area and able to slide the ball past Barnet keeper Jake Cole.

Half Time 2 – 1.

Barnet fans hoping for an upset would have found themselves disappointed in the 2nd half as the Addicks took control.

After 75 minutes the game was effectively wrapped up, Nicky Bailey driving home a stunning free kick from 30 yards out to increase Charlton’s lead.

But the Addicks were not done there, and after some fantastic team work from Jonjo Shelvey and Izale McLeod, Scott Wagstaff found himself unmarked and clear through on goal, where, taking only two touches, he controlled and then fired the ball into the top corner of the net to put the game well and truly to bed.

Charlton go through to the Quarter Final of the JPT southern section now where they will join Southampton, Norwich, MK Dons, Swindon, Leyton Orient, Northampton and Hereford as they look to take the next step towards a cup final date at Wembley.
