The Withdean stadium welcomed Phil Parkinson’s Charlton side on Tuesday night looking to stifle the Addicks’ aim for the top of League One.

In team news Charlton were boosted by the return of Number one Rob Eliott in a side which also saw Kelly Youga ruled out following a late fitness test and Scott Wagstaff making the first league start in his career.

Brighton were not going to be taken for a ride in the match and began proceedings strongest, with James Tunnicliffe hitting the woodwork for the Seagulls after 17 minutes.

Charlton however held their nerve over the opening periods and were rewarded on 28 minutes when Deon Burton rose above the defence to head home a Nicky Bailey free kick.

The Addicks doubled their lead all of eight minutes later as Scott Wagstaff, in his debut league start for the first team stormed into the Brighton area and found that his tenacity and hard working nature helped him get to the loose ball and fire home a Grant Basey cross from six yards.

For a team that hadn’t won away since the August 29th demolition of Tranmere Rovers, Charlton Athletic never looked like loosing the game and defended diligently whenever Brighton had the ball in attack.

Charlton next welcome Southend United to the fortress Valley on Saturday afternoon where the Addicks will be looking to take their league total to 42 points.

Come on you Addicks!
