Line-up: Alexei Smertin starts in place of Radostin Kishishev. Marcus Bent starts but no place in starting 16 for Shaun Bartlett.
There was little on the pitch to enthuse either manager in this bore-draw. THE SUN
West Brom might even have nicked all three points as the Baggies broke out of their defensive bunker just before the interval. But instead of pressing on, they were soon pulled apart by the Bent and Bent show. Charlton kept pressing after the break. Kuszczak made excellent stops to foil the ever-dangerous Darren Bent and Bryan Hughes. Albion were struggling to contend with the power and pace of Darren Bent and Kuszczak's handling had to be secure. DAILY MIRROR
A correspondent: WBA held out against Charlton to leave The Valley with a valuable point despite looking second best from start to finish. Effort was about all the crowd were offered as the teams failed to get into their stride from the start. The one positive to come out of the match was the blossoming partnership of Darren and Marcus Bent, who proved willing runners all night. THE TIMES
John Ley: With Charlton again looking nervous at home, the outcome was totally predictable and of little consolation to either side. The few first-half chances apart, this was not a game designed to sit in the memory, and the second half's early exchanges did little to dispel that feeling. DAILY TELEGRAPH
Matt Scott: The convenience of a draw seemed to affect even the strikers. Twice Darren Bent was thwarted by Tomasz Kuszczak and his own wayward finishing. THE GUARDIAN
Alan Wilson: A turgid 0-0 draw. The game was slow to get going as both teams failed to get into their stride from the start. The home side were the more inventive with the combination of Marcus and Darren Bent up front willing to chase anything put behind the defenders. Their developing partnership was the one bright spark in a pedestrian game. THE INDEPENDENT
