The left-back's second stint in south London expired after the 1-0 win at Huish Park but Powell is hopeful Hammers counterpart Avram Grant will let him stay on.
Meanwhile, midfielder Alan McCormack could be a doubt for this Saturday's trip to Peterborough with a hamstring injury.
