Charlton manager Phil Parkinson tried hard not to sing the praises of matchwinner Scott Wagstaff for fear of losing the midfielder`s services after he again proved the difference against Sheffield Wednesday. Wagstaff fired the Addicks into the top six with the game`s only goal midway through the first half, finding the bottom corner from the edge of the penalty area after seeing his first attempt blocked. The result ended the Owls` six-match unbeaten run and saw them slip just below their heavyweight promotion rivals. Parkinson said: "It is good when you win a game like that to look at the table and I think the performance was a top-six performance. "Scott Wagstaff has six goals for the season and I find myself in every press conference telling people how good he is. "I've got to be careful in case anybody tries to sign him off us but he has got so much energy and in terms of endeavour for the team, I don't think you could get anybody better than Scotty. To have six goals and be our top scorer on the back of that is first class. "Despite us getting beat here in our last game against Brighton, believe it or not but the lads have got a lot of belief in themselves as players and as a squad. There was a setback and we had to respond to it. We've done it in very good fashion and I thought both teams played well."
