Despite the bad run, Pardew was proud of his side and believes that this win could be the catalyst for beating the drop.
Pardew said, "I thought the players' character and commitment to a game plan was excellent. We won as I always like to win - from a solid base."
"It is a great result for us but now we have a run of tough games against Bolton, Chelsea and Manchester United and if we come through those in a similar position we are in today I will feel very confident we can stay up."
