Now that Curbs has reached the FA's shortlist to be Sven Goran Eriksson's successor, the Addicks realise it will be a far more difficult task holding onto the long serving manager when rival Premiership clubs come to snoop.
A five-year deal has been prepared at board level if England choose someone other than Curbishley.
Curbs last sat down with plc Chairman Richard Murray to talk terms on a new contract in October.
"It has been a deliberate decision on my part to forget completing talks for now," said Curbishley.
