The midfielder couldn't help but notice a section of home supporters booing him whenever he touched the ball, while the club was plummeting down the Premiership table earlier in the season.
"It was just a small group of supporters who made me a scapegoat," he said.
Reaching the last eight of the FA Cup this time round has also offered up something a little different for both players and supporters at the south-east London club.
"To have got this far is an achievement because we have always lost to lower division teams in the past."
