Darren Ambrose's strike then eased the pressure on boss Alan Curbishley, highlighted The Sun.
The Charlton boss said: "We needed to win today no matter how we did it. This is another small step, but we have to take every game as it comes. I'm not thinking that because we've won we've arrived again. After the way we started the season, I couldn't see us dropping off the way we did so there is still something there for me to think about. I went back to the same team that started the season against Sunderland on the opening day, except Jerome Thomas played instead of Dennis Rommedahl. I asked them to get back to how we were playing back then. It took a little while to get the passing going but there were signs that it is coming back a bit, and it was a decent sign that we kept a clean sheet. A lot of energy has been expelled for us to try to get a result, so we are all a little bit tired, and now can look forwards to the rest of the week. We are only 15 games into the season but it feels a bit like 50."
