November 2001, a new season, and a new man was in charge of The Hammers, Glenn Roeder.
The game was live on Sky's Monday Night Football like the 1-1 draw back in January of the same year, and they picked a great game to televise.
West Ham's strikeforce contained Paul Kitson, whose last goal was for Charlton against Crystal Palace in the title winning Championship campaign, and Paolo Di Canio, who would join The Addicks two years later. Also on the bench was a certain Jermain Defoe, who was poached by The Irons from Charlton at a young age.
And West Ham took an early lead when Kitson scored after just three minutes. The Addicks got back on level terms when Jason Euell slotted home midway through the first-half.
Euell then put Charlton in front seven minutes later before Kitson made it 2-2 within sixty seconds. Early in the second half, Jonatan Johannson put The Reds back in front and then Kitson equalised for the second time, to get a hat-trick on his return to SE7.
It was left for the pantomime villain in Defoe to come on and score what most fans thought was the winner for West Ham, six minutes from the end.
In a game of many twists and turns though, Charlton snatched a late equaliser when Johannson scored a fabulous overhead kick to grab his second of the game, and end a thrilling London derby in a 4-4 draw.
Were 72 hours away from kick off, and tomorrow we look at Bowyer Vs Parker... who came out on top?
