Away Views: Charlton vs Southampton

Charlton Mad interviewed Keith Legg from www.saintsforever.com to get his views on the game between Charlton and Southampton on monday.

Player to look out for on monday?

I expect our new signing Andreas Jakobsson to be making his debut for Saints at centre half. I doubt he’s gonna make the game really exciting, but from a Saints fan point of view, will be interesting to see if he plugs the huge hole left by Michael Svensson’s injury. Our defence is just not the same since we lost “Killer” and we’ve leaked an average of two goals per game. Jakobsson has captained
Sweden and hopefully will bring some assurance to the back four again.

Your views on Charlton?

You’ve had a weird start to the season, good at home, awful away. Interesting how some Saints fans have been holding Charlton up as an example to be followed in the transfer market and you have made some good buys. However, would you rather have those players or kept Scott Parker? It’s the same scenario with us and
Wayne Bridge, I’d much rather have the player than the dosh, but what can clubs like us do when the Billionaires come-a-calling??

Where do you think
Southampton will finish at the end of the season?

Mid table again. As with 10 other clubs in the Prem, we can finish either 7th or 17th depending on run of form after Christmas. I expect us to hover around the middle. If we are below that, look for Rupert Lowe to wield the axe again and maybe the club will switch code to
Rugby instead.

Player for the future?

Got a lot of kids coming through, the U19’s won the Premiership Academy Trophy last season, beating Arsenal on the way. However, it’s a 15 year old nipper that is getting a lot of attention down here at the moment. Theo Walcott is only just 15 and has already played for our reserves and scored goals. He is already the fastest player at
Southampton and some reckon he could give Thierry Henry a run for his money. Lot of pressure on such a young lad, so I don’t expect him to be breaking through into the first team this season, but he played and scored for the England U17’s in midweek, becoming one of the youngest ever to do so.

Predictions for Charlton vs
Southampton?

Saints are desperate to get a result from this game. We must stop shipping goals and we must tighten up all over the park away from home. A draw would be a good result for us, so I’ll go for 1-1.
